The plants are tall, resistant to lodging and diseases, and have bold seeds. HFO-114 is known to produce 50–55 t/ha of green fodder in two cuts, 13 t/ha of dry matter, and 20 q/ha of seeds.
BRUNKER-10
Brunker-10 is a fast-growing variety of oats with fine and smooth leaves. The plants of this oats variety are prostrate, with abundant tillering and slow early growth. Brunker-10 has fine and narrow leaves. It yields around 40–45 t/ha of green fodder in approximately 140 days. This variety is predominantly cultivated in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
WESTON 11
Weston 11 is an exotic variety of oats introduced in 1978. It is a semi-erect type with a height of approximately 155 cm. The leaves of Weston 11 are broad, and it produces smooth panicles. This variety takes about 110 days to flower and around 160 days to reach maturity.
PALAMPUR-1
The Palanpur-1 variety of oats, released in 1980, is known for its medium maturity and abundant tillering. It is also resistant to lodging, making it a robust choice for cultivation. Notified for cultivation in Himachal Pradesh, this oats variety is also exported and yields approximately 50 t/ha of green fodder.
BUNDEL JAI-822
This variety of oats has been developed from a cross between IGO-4268 × Indio-6-5-1 following intervarietal hybridization and pedigree method of selection. Released in 1989, the variety has erect growth habit and glabrous nodes. It takes around 95–100 days for flowering Bundel Jai-822 and matures in about 125–130 days.
SABZAAR (SKO-7)
Sabzaar, released in 1997 and developed by SKUA&T in Srinagar, is notified for cultivation in temperate areas of Kashmir and high altitude regions of Jammu. On the other hand, the SKO-7 variety of oats is characterized by abundant tillering, leafiness, and is well-suited for dual purposes. It yields approximately 35–40 t/ha of green fodder.
HARITA (RO -19)
Harita, a variety of oats, was released in 2007 and is notified for cultivation in Maharashtra. Developed by selection from a base population of Kent by MPKV, Rahuri, Harita is a multicut variety ideal for the winter season under irrigated conditions. It boasts an average yield of approximately 50 t/ha for green forage and around 9.5 t/ha for dry matter.
UPO–212
The UPO-212 variety of oats was released in 1990, specifically for cultivation in the north and central regions of India, utilizing the multi-cut system. This oats variety features a light green stem with 8-10 tillers and thin and variable awns. It boasts an average green fodder yield of approximately 60 t/ha.
OL-125
The OL-125 variety of oats was developed through intervarietal hybridization using Appler and IPC-163, followed by pedigree breeding and selection. It was released in 1995 for cultivation in the north-west and central zones of the country. OL-125 is suitable for both single cut and multi-cut systems and yields around 58 t/ha of green fodder.
